If you are looking for someone to design and build a custom bar, look no further. Jimmy Kaylis has been designing and building bars in historic downtown Wilmington and the surrounding regions for the past 30 years.

His most recent creations include the art deco-style bar at The Vibe, located in historic downtown Wilmington at the Cotton Exchange, and the exclusive Cape Fear Country Club’s more contemporary walnut bar.

After seeing Kaylis’ work, it is immediately apparent that he is a serious bar builder, far from just an ordinary carpenter.

“Just show me the space, give me a little direction and I will do my utmost to give you something special,” Kaylis explained.

Kaylis is the owner of Kaylis Barcraft & Design. He and his team use sophisticated AutoCAD software in the design process and incorporate a variety of materials and techniques, including epoxy resin, stone, metals, and all different types of lumbers and veneers.

Kaylis has an impressive resume of clients, including the Cape Fear Men’s Club, Fat Tony’s, the Porter’sNeck Country Club, Wrightsville Beach Surf Club, Dram and Draft, and Nema, which is now the Rooster and the Crow. “What we do is specialized shop work that has that ‘Wow’ factor,” added Kaylis. “We really like to bring that into our design approach.”

In addition to custom bars and back bars, Kaylis Barcraft & Design has created wine cellars & racks, hostess and wait stations, glass racks, live edge slab tops and epoxy resin pours, booths, bench seating, wall treatments and specialty piece work.

“We have a 5,000 square foot shop, so we can basically do anything our clients need us to do,” said Kaylis.

“It’s really rewarding to deliver a finished project and think that we’ve helped someone create a focal point in their establishment.”

For residential clients, Kaylis and his team have built everything from home bars, media centers and table tops to computer stations, kitchens, bookshelves, wine cellars and humidors. They credit their success to their ability to create a distinctive custom design from scratch or draw from their clients’ ideas and imaginations, along with their commitment to provide clear communications throughout the process.

Kaylis has not confined his business to Wilmington, as he enjoys traveling to serve the needs of his clients. As a result, his creations are on display in venues from Ponte Vedra, Florida, to Annapolis, Maryland, Charlotte and the North Carolina mountains.
