WILMINGTON — Robert L. Holt, 81, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2026. He was born in Wilmington, NC on July 7, 1945, to the late Robert Eldridge and Mildred Bowden Holt. Robert was a devoted husband to Rebecca Qualls Holt and a proud father to Annette Holt Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Holt; sister, Nancy Morse; infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Holt and his nephew, Richard Morse, Jr.
Robert had a long career with Bell South (AT&T) as an Electronic Technician, retiring only to begin a second career with AFL Communications. That work led him to Louisiana, where he helped restore communications in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina—bringing steady skill and quiet dedication to a moment when it mattered most.
A lifelong fascination with trains drew Robert to The Wilmington Railroad Museum, a place he loved deeply, especially when sharing it with others while giving tours. His days were also shaped by a spirited love of the outdoors and the open horizon—time at the beach, boating, biking, running, and traveling. He enjoyed Rock n Roll music, and he moved through the world with kindness, purpose, and an unwavering zest for life.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rebecca Qualls Holt; daughter, Annette Lewis and her husband Ryan; granddaughters: Karen Schneider and Tabitha Conway and her husband Lukas; 5 great grandchildren; nieces: Nancy Jane Hammond, Sherry Dekker (John), Diane Rahimtoola (Sharif); nephews: Scott Allison (Debbie), John Qualls; 6 great nieces/nephews and 6 great great nieces/nephews.
