CASTLE HAYNE — With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Lang, a beloved son, brother, and friend. Born on November 22. 1988 in Greensboro, NC, Michael’s journey came to a close on September 1, 2026, in Castle Hayne, NC, at the age of 37.
Michael had a generous spirit that made everyone feel welcome. He was always willing to help, give his time, or simply be there when someone needed him. He truly never met a stranger. Michael was also someone who genuinely cared about people. He took the time to listen, remembered what was happening in their lives, and always asked about it the next time they saw each other. He made people feel heard, remembered, and cared for. His kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit made him deeply loved by his family, friends, neighbors, and community.
In 1991, he moved from Greensboro to Mount Airy, North Carolina, beginning a new chapter in his life. In 2003, he moved to Wilmington and later settled in Leland in 2005. Each move brought new experiences and opportunities for reflection and growth. In 2016, Michael made Castle Hayne his home, where he put down roots and built a life where he truly felt he belonged.
Michael was a talented chef at The Fork n Cork, where his culinary skills brought joy to countless people. His passion for cooking extended beyond work, as he was known for preparing delicious seafood dishes at family holidays, with his famous “man n cheese” being a favorite among the children.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life- spending time with family, being at the beach, gathering with friends, and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. Michael was always up for an adventure, whether camping, skiing, kayaking, sail boating, or competing as an avid triathlete.
One of Michael’s most treasured memories was traveling with his late father, Donald Joseph Lang, Jr. Their memorable trip to Texas, exploring the area together on a motorcycle and sidecar, forever held a special place in his heart.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Donald Joseph Lang, Jr.; brother, Peter Lang; Nana, Joyce Wells McFetters; Granddad, Colonel Donald Joseph Lang, Sr.; Papa, E.J.McFetters, Jr.; Granny, Mariam Rodgers Lang; and cousin, Kyle Sandel.
