LELAND — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary V. Farrington. She was able to finish her life in her own home, with her eldest child constantly at her side. She had succumbed to breast cancer which she had been battling for many years.
Mom had her wits about her until the end. We were able to celebrate her 95th birthday just a week before she passed. She had a wonderful time and enjoyed a birthday cupcake. Just a few days after, she rapidly went into decline. We believe she stubbornly held on until this birthday party so that she could have all three of her children present as well as her wonderful bridge friends, her grandson Scott and some of her special neighbors.
Although Mom always had challenges with her health, she lead a very full and productive life. She was an amazing seamstress who sewed beautiful dresses for her two young daughters. In addition she always volunteered to sew all the recital costumes for all the children in our dance class. She was an avid bridge player and lover of reading. And like many women of her generation, she loved watching the soap operas.
She was deeply involved in her church, sang in the choir, lead bible studies, became a deacon, and lead prayer chains for those in need.
Mom was smart. She was a straight A student and a member of the national honor society. She was a perfect candidate for college, but the difficult post depression years made that impossible.
Mom is now at peace with her husband of 61 years, Stanley C. Farrington. She will be remembered always with love and gratitude by her three children, Sheri German and spouse Andy, Jill Carney and spouse Rob, and George Farrington and spouse Andrea, her five grandchildren, Michael Kossin, David Kossin, Jennifer German Dulany, Scott German, and Courtney Hammons, and by many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Zion United Methodist Church located at 6864 Zion Church Rd NE, Leland, NC 28451. We will gather in the coming months when the weather is cooler.
The family suggests donations in her memory to Zion United Methodist Church’s Outreach Ministries.
