LELAND — Christopher Lyn Carpenter, lovingly known as “Chris”, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 19, 2026, at his home in Leland, North Carolina, at the age of 42.
Chris was born on June 11, 1984, in Lexington, North Carolina, where he spent his childhood and made many lifelong memories before eventually settling in Leland—a place he proudly called home.
Above all else, Chris loved his family. His greatest joy in life was being a husband and father. He cherished his wife, Tiffany Rachel Carpenter, and his daughter, Kandace Marie Carpenter, more than anything in this world. They were the center of his life and the source of his greatest happiness.
Chris was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh. He had a way of bringing lightheartedness into everyday moments and will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. He loved spending time on the water with a fishing pole in hand—a passion that was passed down to him by his father, Lonnie Lyn Carpenter. Following his father’s passing on November 7, 2022, Chris continued to honor his memory by fishing, especially on meaningful occasions. Just days before his passing, on July 15, he spent the day fishing in celebration of his father’s birthday, a tradition that reflected the special bond they shared.
Fishing wasn’t simply a hobby for Chris—it was where he felt most at peace. Whether casting a line at sunrise or spending time on the water with friends, those moments were among his happiest. He was blessed with friendships that meant the world to him. Damon House, his childhood best friend, shared decades of memories and laughter, while his dear friend, Ottie VanCuren, became his regular fishing companion in Leland. The friendships Chris cherished throughout his life reflected the kind of person he was—loyal, genuine, and easy to love.
When he wasn’t fishing, Chris enjoyed watching movies and wrestling and simply spending time with the people he loved. Whether sharing a laugh, telling stories, or enjoying a quiet day outdoors, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife, Tiffany Rachel Carpenter; his beloved daughter, Kandace Marie Carpenter; his mother, Christine Marie Williams; and his siblings, Michelle Nichole Cox, Christina Jane Franklin, Carrie Ann Nichols, Katie Paige Shubert, and Kelvin Lee Franklin Jr. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss his laughter, kindness, and presence every day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Lyn Carpenter, whose memory he carried with him always.
Though Chris’s time with us was far too short, the love he gave so freely and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. May we remember him whenever we cast a line into the water, laugh at a favorite movie, cheer during a wrestling match, or simply hold our loved ones a little closer. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
