WILMINGTON — Thomas J. Shannahan, 56, affectionately known as Tommy, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 5, 2026. A devoted father who loved his family dearly, he was quick with his wit and never turned down a good debate. He will be deeply missed and was cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Food was Tom’s love language. His passion for food led him to Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, launching a long, fulfilling, and successful culinary career. Tom believed that sharing delicious food nourished deep bonds, lasting friendships, and laughter. Nothing brought him more joy than spending hours in the kitchen with his daughter.
Tom was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Elliot Shannahan, and her mother; his parents, Johnny, and Linda Shannahan; his sister, Jennifer Clark (Robbie); and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, dear friends, colleagues, and clients.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Elliot was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest source of pride. In lieu of flowers, donations in support of her education would be deeply appreciated.
