WILMINGTON — Valentino “Tino” Mintegui, cherished son, brother, and grandson, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, just days shy of his tenth birthday. He was born on June 27, 2016, in Wilmington, and in his short but impactful life, Tino brought immense joy to those who knew him.
Despite being born at an early 26 weeks and weighing only 2.5 pounds, Tino’s spirit was as vibrant as it was resilient. His boundless energy and zest for life were evident from a young age. Every morning was an opportunity for adventure as he would leap out of bed, eager to embrace the day ahead and indulge in the simple joys of playing with his beloved toys.
His days were often filled with the lively sounds of KPop Demon Hunters, which served as background music while he watched videos of cute dogs on his tablet. Tino could typically be found building elaborate tracks with his marble run set or racing his collection of cars, buses, trains, and monster trucks across the floor. His favorite place was the local train store, a spot he adored so much he would have gladly made it his home if given the chance.
Tino loved car rides accompanied by music, always keeping drumsticks in hand, ready to tap along. Walking along Wilmington’s downtown waterfront, visiting the fountain and walking around Fort Fisher were among his treasured outings, where the smiles of those around him would readily spark his infectious enthusiasm. Tino also loved Family Feud and Steve Harvey. He loved watching and celebrating with the contestants when they won the jackpot.
Visits to his grandmother’s house held a special place in his heart, surrounded by stuffed animals and toys that brought him endless delight. To know Tino was to experience his radiant joy and uncontainable happiness.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Joanne Mintegui. Tino’s legacy of love and laughter endures in the hearts of his surviving family: his devoted father, Sebastian Mintegui; his loving sister, Madison Mintegui; grandmothers, Yvonne Gregorio and Susie Goldstein; grandfathers, James Gregorio and Oscar Mintegui; uncle, Victor Montes; and aunt, Melissa Montes.
Tino’s light will forever shine brightly in the fond memories he leaves behind, a testament to the joy he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
