WILMINGTON — Rosemarie C. Sarrocco, born on October 5, 1934, in Manhattan, NY, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 91.

Raised in the vibrant heart of New York City, Rosemarie carried with her the spirit of a true New Yorker throughout her life. A graduate of high school in Long Island City, NY, she cherished her youth spent with her cousin and best friend, Mary. As a young woman, she was a member of an Italian social club where she enjoyed dancing and embraced the traditions of her heritage. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, having been raised in the Catholic Church.

Rosemarie’s career began in the bustling offices of American Express in Manhattan, NY. She later transitioned to the import/export business, where she excelled as a traffic manager, demonstrating her remarkable organizational skills and dedication. Her love for animals led her to work briefly at an animal hospital, showcasing her compassionate nature.

Outside of her professional life, Rosemarie found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid gardener and had a talent for arts and crafts. Dining out was among her favorite pastimes, and she relished the company of family and friends. Her love for children and animals was evident in her generous spirit towards her nieces and nephews. After the passing of her father, she became a pillar of strength for her mother, encouraging her to embrace independence and resilience.

Summers often found Rosemarie at Jones Beach on Long Island, where she delighted in the sun and sand. In quieter moments, she could be found watching “Wheel of Fortune,” a show she enjoyed immensely.

A true New York City girl at heart, Rosemarie once rescued and raised a baby blue jay, forming a unique bond with the bird. Known for her tenacity and candid nature, she was a loving sister to Sandra, often stepping into a nurturing role due to their significant age difference.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nicholas and Rose Sarrocco. She is survived by her brother Michael Sarrocco and his wife Vicky, her sister Sandra Skidmore and her husband Bill and her cherished nieces and nephews Richard Sarrocco, Vincent Zuhowsky, Mike Sarrocco, Nicholas Sarrocco and Jannine Pulsonetti.

A Memorial Service will be held at Champions Assisted Living facility, part of The Davis Community, located at 1007 Porters Neck Rd, Wilmington, NC 28411. Date and time to be scheduled. Interment will take place at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, NY, where she will be laid to rest alongside her parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosemarie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rosemarie C. Sarrocco will be remembered for her feisty spirit, loving heart, and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
