WILMINGTON — Katherine Clyde Stone, 64, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Novant Health New Hanover Medical Center.
She was born on October 4, 1961, in Clinton, North Carolina, to Leslie Sloan Smith and the late Margaret “Greta” Smith.
Katherine devoted 30 years to education in North Carolina. She took great pleasure in gardening, cooking, and doting on her beloved daughter, Maggie.
In addition to her father, Katherine is also survived by her beloved husband, James Townsend; her daughter, Maggie Stone; her brothers, Jason Smith, Luke Smith, Andrew Smith; her sister, Lora Smith Canter; and her “other children”, George Mayo, and Fowler Crudele.
