Melissa Dawn Jarvis, 54

Melissa Dawn Jarvis (Michael J. Fulwood Funeral Service License)

OAK ISLAND — Melissa Dawn Jarvis née Elsea was born in Winchester Virginia on January 7, 1972, and the light of that dawn faded peacefully from our sight on June 7, 2026. She was 54 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Joel Jarvis of Rock Hill South Carolina; her stepdaughters Bradie and Emily Jarvis; her father Henry D. Elsea Jr. of Largo FL and wife Janet; her mother Joyce Renner Elsea of Oak Island NC. Her sister Rebecca E. Phillips of Oak Island NC and husband Artie; her brother Justin M. Childress of Fredericksburg VA and wife Rebecca; her brother Henry “Rex” Elsea, III of Bridgewater VA and his wife Amanda. Also mourning this loss are her beloved nieces and nephews: Luke, Jacob, Izzy, Blake, Lillian, Levi, Hannah, Saoirse, and Robert.

These loved ones she leaves behind not in defeat of what took her body, but in triumph over the disease that could not break her soul. Her battle ended not in loss, but in a gentle release into the love that will forever surround her memory, until we are all reunited beyond.

Melissa graduated with honors from UNC Charlotte and pursued her career with a quiet competence that was respected by her coworkers.

Missy was a woman who loved with her whole self. Her frequent contemplation was never mistaken for timidity, but a deep patience and kindness for humanity and animals alike. Her heart was never far from the sand, water, sun of the beach: she would be near the water at every opportunity.

Missy loved her family. She was a natural peacemaker, encouraging love over conflict every time. She loved her nieces and nephews with her whole heart. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and never let slip an opportunity to celebrate, be it a holiday or a memory.

In lieu of flowers, her family would ask you donate to the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Foundation.

Online condolences are encouraged and may be sent to the family here.
