LELAND — Virgil Owen Sullivan, 89 of Leland, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with his wife by his side.
Virgil was born January 19,1937 in Brunswick County,NC. He was the son of Buck Roosevelt Sullivan and Myrtle Willetts Sullivan, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Frank, and David Sullivan, sisters Margie Eveland, Lorraine Robbins, Erie Virginia Sullivan, and Cathy Lanier, and brother-in-law Travis Chestnutt.
Virgil is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years Betty Walker Sullivan who stood faithfully by his side until he was called home. He is also survived by his children Debbie Marquez and husband Al, Stephen Sullivan and wife Tina, Daryl Sullivan, and Dawn McCumbee. His grandchildren Christopher and wife Sammie, Cody and wife Brenda, Morgan Hoover and husband Nick, Brittany Brock and husband Evan, Matthew McCumbee and fiancé’ Cameron. Virgil was blessed with 11 great grandchildren- Braydon, Braxton, Brently, Kameron, Jaxon, Aubrey, Jolene, Easton, Rogan, Dakota and Madison. Virgil will be missed greatly by his brother Lloyd Sullivan and wife Jackie. He is also survived by his sister Frances Bohicak, mother-in-law Mary Walker, sisters in law Annette Walker and Faye Chestnut as well as many extended family members.
Virgil proudly served the United States Air Force. He was avid San Francisco 49ers fan, and you could always find him flipping between games during football season. He loved a beautiful yard and always took pride in his flowers and garden.
Virgil will be missed and forever loved by his family.
