Donna Lee West, 62

Donna Lee West (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Donna Lee West, 62, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born on August 21, 1963, in Eufaula, Alabama, Donna was the daughter of the late Betty Sue Herndon Lee and Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Billie Ray Lee.

Donna moved to Wilmington with her family when she was younger and later graduated from John T. Hoggard High School with the Class of 1981. Through her love of softball, she met her husband, David, while they were playing for opposing teams. The friendly competition eventually became a lasting love story, and they were married on August 8, 1992. Together, they shared 33 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and the kind of playful banter that made their relationship so special to those around them.

Donna worked in accounting at General Electric, where her organized and thoughtful nature served her well. She was known for her attention to detail, but also for the humor and warmth she brought into the workplace. Whether at work, at church, or with family, Donna had a way of making people feel seen, remembered, and cared for.

For 34 years, Donna was a devoted member of Masonboro Baptist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she served her church family with dedication and love. She taught Sunday School to preschoolers for 24 years, helped with Vacation Bible School, and served as an ordained deacon, offering guidance, support, and kindness to many.

Donna had a sweet spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a heart that naturally leaned toward generosity. She had an extraordinary gift for remembering birthdays, special occasions, and the little details that mattered to the people she loved. She chose gifts with care and thoughtfulness, earning the affectionate title of “Keeper of the Treasures” among her family and friends.

She loved both the beach and the mountains, especially the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. She also treasured simple moments, including trips to the movies with her niece or finding a good bargain deal while shopping. Memories that will always be cherished dearly.

Donna is survived by her loving husband, David West; her brother, Kevin Lee and wife, Kim; her sister, Kayla Lee Williams and husband, Rory; nephews, Cameron Lee and Matthew West; nieces, Deanna Pope and Katie Lee; and her best friend, Judy Mangum Smith.

Memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, in gratitude for the care and support they provided to Donna and her family, or to WARM NC, reflecting Donna’s generous spirit and care for others.

Donna will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and church community. Her life was a collection of treasured moments, thoughtful gestures, deep faith, and lasting love.
