WILMINGTON — Ken Hoover, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 77. Born on August 25, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA, Ken lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.
Ken’s journey began in the Steel City, where he developed an early appreciation for hard work and community. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of duty and honor.
Following his military service, Ken built a successful career as a Quality Control Supervisor at Matthews International in Pittsburgh, overseeing the production of ink products. His commitment to excellence and his leadership inspired those who worked alongside him.
Ken was a man of deep faith and was an active member of Bridge of Life Church in Leland, NC. His spirituality was complemented by his love for his family, especially his cherished wife Kathryne, whom he adored beyond measure. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and warmth.
A devoted father and grandfather, Ken treasured every moment spent with his children Sherry and Kevin, stepson Michael, and his grandchildren Reid, Reagan, Rayna, and Tyler. His family was his pride and joy, and he found immense happiness in their achievements and growth.
Ken had a zest for life that was evident in his love for travel and new experiences. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and made countless memories on the lanes. Throughout his life, he touched many hearts with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering optimism.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy (Ernst) Hoover, and his sisters, Patricia Stromple and Bernice Hoover. He is survived by his loving wife Kathryne, children, grandchildren, sister Marlene Evans, and brother Fred Hoover, along with numerous friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Ken Hoover left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. His legacy of love, integrity, and adventure will live on through his family and all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
