Robert Wayne Canady, 80

CASTLE HAYNE — Robert was born on May 6th, 1945, to James Russell Canady and Ila Reaves Canady in Columbus County, NC.

He was preceded in death by his father James, mother Ila, sister Virginia Carol Canady, brother James Arthur Canady, and grandson Josiah Canady. He is survived by his brother Joseph Ellery Canady of Wilmington, his 5 children: Robert Wayne Canady Jr of Rocky Point, Martha Estelle Canady of Rocky Point, Rebecca Ann Canady of Wilmington, David Paul Canady of Rocky Point, John Phillip Canady of Rocky Point, 14 grandchildren: Robert Canady III, Patrick Reiter, Jessica Beasley, Samantha Grey (Darius), William Reiter, Shelby Canady, Elizabeth Bybee, Matthew Canady, Savanah Canady, Maddison Bybee, Makenzie Canady, Phoenix Canady, Sarah Canady, Jeremiah Canady, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Robert moved to New Hanover County at an early age as his father James was a sharecropper in Castle Hayne (present day GE). He grew up in and dearly loved the Cape
Fear region. He was known and loved by many people and was never a stranger to anyone.

Robert was an avid fisherman and knew the waterways, inlets, and rivers better than most in his fishing years. He was known by the local fisherman as “Tongue-Fish”. He loved to tell the stories of his fishing adventures in the waterways and rivers. He was also proud to have hosted the Northeast Cape Fear River Bream Tournament for several years.

Robert has many friends and family that love him, and he will be dearly missed.
