WILMINGTON — Sherry A. Brunelle, born May 14, 1946, in Barre, Vermont, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina, at age 79.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Sherry was known for her vibrant spirit, independence, and generosity. Raised in Barre, she graduated from Spaulding High School before marrying Richard Brunelle of Burlington, Vermont. Together they owned Serendipity, a charming shop known for jewelry and unique decorative pieces. In 1976, Sherry welcomed her son Patrick, raising him in South Burlington and spending relaxing days along the shores of Lake Champlain.
In 1984, Sherry and Patrick moved to North Carolina, first to Carolina Beach and later to Wilmington, where close friends Carmen and Jim Zola helped her settle into her new life. She loved the coast, often visiting the beach and the Cape Fear River, sailing with Patrick, and watching him surf. Her kindness, creativity, and devotion to her son shaped their many adventures together.
When Patrick married Tammy, Sherry embraced Tammy as her own daughter with love and respect. She made all of the decorations for their wedding and adopted Tammy’s family as her own. She enjoyed spending time with Tammy’s mother Louise, brother Tim, sister Robin, and Robin’s children.
Sherry was an active member and past president of the Wilmington Singles Club, where she organized dances and transformed events with her eye for decoration. She loved music, dancing, and the friendships she built over the years. A passionate thrift store treasure hunter, she also volunteered for many years at Vintage Values, supporting causes that mattered deeply to her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Estella Johnson of Lower Websterville, Vermont. She is survived by her son Patrick and his wife Tammy; her chosen grandchildren Jessica, Justine, Solomon, Justin, and Kayden; and many dear friends.
To honor Sherry’s memory, a celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403 at 11:00 AM.
Sherry Brunelle will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all those whose lives she touched with her kindness, creativity, and unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
