SNEADS FERRY — Annette Russ Squires, 90, of Raleigh and formerly of Sneads Ferry, passed from her earthly life Thursday, February 12, 2026 at her home in Raleigh.
She was born March 17, 1935 in Kelly, the daughter of Roland Lewis Russ and Anna Neal Hester Russ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Squires and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Squires.
Annette is survived by her husband of 71 years, David Lee Squires; son, Eric Squires (Cindy); daughter, Lisa Gormon (Rowell); daughter-in-law, Judy Squires; grandchildren, Marilyn Gormon (Beau Wallace), Richard Gormon, Tim Lee (Lana), and Robert E. Lee (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Brandon Lee, Parker Lee, Tripp Lee, and Jackson Lee; brother, John Russ (Sherry); sisters, Etta Mae Coats and Peggy Worrel; many extended family and friends.
After working for many years Annette retired from NC Department of Transportation where she and David both worked and retired the same day.
Annette was a lady of many talents and interests – played the organ at Salem Baptist Church where she and David were active members, member of the Lions Club, in 1965 won the title of Mrs. Raleigh and went on to be a runner up in the Mrs. North Carolina Padgett. Annette was always dressed to a tee and never a hair out of place. A loving and gracious lady who lived a long and wonderful life.
The memorial service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Centerville Baptist Church with Pastor Sandy Bain conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
