WILMINGTON — Patricia ‘Pat’ Antonia Sox, 86, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.
She was born on February 22, 1939, in Burlington, North Carolina, to the late Adrian and Fannie Mae (White) Perry. Pat became a resident of Pleasure Island when she moved to the beach with her son Jeff in 1979.
Pat was known for her generosity, kind heart and unwavering support of those she loved deeply. Family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in watching it grow. With the addition of grandkids, she became ‘Maw Maw’ to those closest to her and was undoubtedly the Matriarch of the family. She adopted the role of second mother to many, welcoming others as her own by offering encouragement, and unconditional love. Pat was truly the embodiment of warmth and comfort.
In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her sister and best friend, Jeanne. Many trips and memories made from the NC mountains, down to Florida.
Pat is survived by her son, Jeff Sox and wife, Whitney; son-in-law Nick Poleo; her grandchildren, Brandi Skenes, Marissa Newton and husband, Willie, Korie Poleo, Kahlen Sox, Carson Sox, Brody Sox; her great-grandchildren, Devon Skenes, Diamond McIntyre, Leanna Newton, Layla Newton, Landen Newton, Nikole Richardson, Chris Richardson, Sage Black and three great-great grandchildren; her sister, Jeanne Passmore and husband, Mike; nephews, Adrian Perry, Robbie Little and Brandon Passmore, with great nephews and nieces, as well as her beloved dog, Lucy.
In addition to her parents, Pat was also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Dean Sox; her daughter, Rhonda Jo Poleo; and her brother Butch Perry.
We are so blessed for the time we shared and the countless memories and stories of Maw Maw that will keep us laughing and carry us forward. She leaves behind a family forever grateful for her outpouring of love and example and she will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17th at the Kure Beach Community Center, 118 N. 3rd Ave., Kure Beach, NC 28449 from 1:00 – 3:00pm (casual attire). Please join us in sharing memories and honoring the joy Pat brought to our lives.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you consider a memorial donation to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
