BURGAW — Following a long and fruitful life, Hattie Mae Hall Teachey passed peacefully from her earthly life to her eternal rest Thursday, December 11, 2025.
She was born August 20, 1940, in Pender County, the daughter of Crowell and Lila Wooten Hall. In addition to her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Milton Teachey; daughter, Gina Zook; and sisters, Vernell Hall Jones, Madeline Hall Griffin, and Julia Hall Wells.
Hattie is survived by her sons, L. Milton Teachey, Jr. and Fred Teachey and his wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Alexa Teachey, Daniel Zook, Meredith Amick; great granddaughter, Anna Beck; brother, Needham Hall and his wife, Sylvia; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Hattie graduated from Burgaw High School and received her undergraduate from East Carolina University and furthered her education with a masters degree. She taught elementary and middle school for many years in New Hanover county where she touched so many lives. She received numerous awards right up until her retirement. Even after retirement she continued to fill in as a substitute teacher in Pender county to be close to her granddaughter while she was in elementary school.
Hattie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. Whether it was being the best babysitter possible or taking them on trips to different places. She cherished her friends and enjoyed getting together playing bridge. Hattie had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone around laugh even up to her passing. She volunteered and enjoyed being a part of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 3, 2026 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 4682 US Hwy 117 N, Burgaw NC 28425.
