WILMINGTON — Kenneth R. Waring, affectionately known as “Pop” since the birth of his granddaughters, passed away at the age of 81 in Wilmington, North Carolina, on November 15.
Ken was born on June 6, 1944, in Oakland, California, the only child of Mary and Kenneth Waring. He graduated from Oakland High School and was shortly thereafter drafted into the United States Army. He served proudly as a Military Police officer and dog handler with his loyal canine partner, Sultan, at Fort Cronkhite on the northern California coast.
After completing his service, Ken married, welcomed children, and built a life in the Bay Area, where he enjoyed many aspects of the American dream. He built a career working in various roles with Allstate Insurance before retiring to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he embraced a well-earned life of leisure.
Pop is survived by his two sons, Robert and Brian; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Waring; and his beloved granddaughters, Emily and Lucy Waring.
As a father, he taught his sons the value of love, integrity, and honest work. As a grandfather, he beamed with pride, surrounding his granddaughters with unwavering affection, support, and joy.
He was a good father and a great Pop. He will be remembered with love and deeply missed.
Per his wishes, there will be no ceremony, and he will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
