SOUTHPORT — Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Patterson passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, her favorite holiday, in Southport, North Carolina.
She was born on October 24, 1964 to Liz (Phillips) Patterson and Dave Patterson in Olongapo, Philippines.
Betsy loved sail boats, cats, the beach, family, Washington DC football, family weddings, and live music. She forged strong, lifelong friendships yet never met a stranger. Relying on those relational strengths, Betsy worked in the fashion industry, was a natural in the hospitality business and in retail sales.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, David Patterson and Mary Elizabeth Patterson, her sister-in-law, Christie Patterson, and partner, Geoffrey Galbraith.
She is survived by her stepmother Mary Patterson, sister Julie Roulier (Scott), brothers Dave Patterson and Dan Patterson (Suzette), stepsiblings Bill Thomas (Tonya) and Denise Kessler, nephews Sean and Peter (Megan) Roulier, nieces Ryleigh and Tyler Patterson and great nephew Rhett Roulier. Betsy also adored her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life and internment will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Christian Recovery Centers, Inc, Rose House.
