ROCKY POINT — Marian Sue Spell, 76, of Rocky Point, NC, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 26, 2025, surrounded by her family, after being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2019. She was the daughter of the late M.B. and Mabel Barefoot and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Daphne Sue Blissett, and brother, Charles Barefoot.
Sue is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert E. (Bobby) Spell; her children, Steven Blissett and wife, Susan, Sharyn Gietzen and husband, Todd, Alan Spell and wife, Anne; her grandchildren, Hannah Blissett, Samuel Blissett, McKinley Faircloth, Kendall Faircloth, Adam Gietzen, Emily Gietzen, Campbell Spell, Patrick Spell, and her great-granddaughter, Aurora Potter; She is also survived by her sisters, Gale Stout and husband, Ray, and Kathy DeGenova and husband, Tony; sister-in-law, Barbara Barefoot; brother-in-law, Jimmy Spell and wife, Julie; and sister-in-law, Diane Parker and husband, Tim; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins she loved dearly.
Sue was employed by NCNB and Life of Georgia Insurance Company for many years. She, along with her husband, were long-time members of Castle Hayne Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and other ministries. Sue had a very loving nature and was a devoted wife, mother, and “Nanny” to her grandchildren. Some of her favorite things to do were traveling, camping, shopping, and most of all, spending time with her family. She held a very special place in her heart for babies and her beloved pup, Brandy.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at Castle Hayne Community Church, 4544 Parmele Road, Castle Hayne, NC 28429, with Pastor Billy Fowler officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be held immediately following the service.
