WILMINGTON — Michael S. “Mike” Dunlap, born on January 8, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 70.
Mike led a life marked by dedication, service, and quiet generosity. He spent his professional years as a travel x-ray technician in New York and South Carolina, sharing his expertise and care with those in need. His career later culminated as Director of Radiology at a prominent hospital in Arizona, where he was respected for his leadership and commitment to patient care.
Despite his significant professional accomplishments, Mike preferred to remain a private and reserved individual. Outside of work, he found fulfillment in quietly donating his time and resources to the Salvation Army, where he contributed personal care kits to those less fortunate.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Oliver and Dorothy Dunlap. Mike leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 49 years, Nancy “Ginger” Dunlap; his son, Adam (Amy); his grandchildren, Seth and Meghan; his sister, Melissa Terry; his brother-in-law, Bill Godwin, and his wife, Paula. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him fondly.
In accordance with his wishes and character, a private family celebration of his life is being planned for after the new year.
The world has lost a gentle spirit, but his legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
