WILMINGTON — Homer Edgar Chesser, Jr., a devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in his hometown of Wilmington, NC. Born on June 17, 1948, Homer lived a full life of 77 years.
Homer dedicated 26 years of his professional life to E.I. Dupont de Nemours, where he served as a works engineering supervisor. His career was defined by excellence and innovation, earning him the prestigious Dupont Corporate Award ( for business excellence). Following his tenure at Dupont, Homer continued to share his expertise as an independent contractor, contributing to the success of start-up plants worldwide.
Beyond his professional achievements. Homer found joy in the great outdoors, spending countless hours fishing, hunting, and metal detecting. He appreciated the basic wonders of nature.
Homer was a proud member of Orient Lodge 395 AF and AM and the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, achieving the distinguished rank of 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He also served his community as a member of the Ogden Volunteer Fire Department, demonstrating his dedication to helping others.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Edgar Chesser, Sr. and Katherine Bethea Chesser; his sister, Mary Katherine Chesser Coleman; his daughter, Heather Peyton Shaw; his granddaughter, Emery Elizabeth Knox; and his brothers-in-law, Dr. Dexter C. Coleman and Thomas C. Roberts.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Donna Mathews Chesser; his daughter, Betsy Chesser Knox and her husband, Trip; his grandchildren, Justin Knox, Elise Knox, Grant Shaw, and Peyton S. Restrepo and her husband, J.P. Homer also leaves behind his sister, Jean C. Service and her husband, Grant; his sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth M. Roberts and Lula M. Huggins and her partner, Doug Brown; his brother-in-law, Donald E. Mathews and his wife, Beth; along with six nephews, two nieces, and four great-nieces.
