WILMINGTON — Dr. Sherif B. Botros, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and physician, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 75. Born on September 15, 1949, in Alexandria, Egypt, he led a life marked by service, love, and laughter.

At the age of eight, Sherif moved to England until he relocated to Greensboro, NC, at the age of sixteen. He began his college education at Guilford College, followed by medical school at UNC. It was in Chapel Hill during his ENT residency that he met Barbara, the love of his life, who was working as a nurse. They married in 1977 in Carrboro, NC, which was the start of a beautiful partnership that would last nearly five decades.

Sherif specialized in pediatric ENT, inspired by his ability to connect with children and bring comfort to families. He and his best friend, Hoke Pollock, established an ENT practice in Wilmington, where he spent over 40 years caring for countless patients.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Sherif cherished the time spent with his family. He found joy in being on the water, boating, and riding his bicycle. Those who knew him well will forever remember his quick wit and sarcastic humor, which brought laughter and lightness to every gathering.

Preceded in death by his parents, Botros and Yvonne Botros, his in-laws, James and Susie Freeman, brother-in-law Mike Freeman, and his dear daughter Lauren Botros, Sherif has now joined them, resting in eternal peace.

Sherif’s life was deeply enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Botros, his sons, Lucas (Christy) Botros and Brent (Arielle) Botros, and his cherished grandchildren, Harrison, Tucker, and Anna Lee. His sister-in-law, Edna Freeman, and many dear friends, including his lifelong colleague Hoke Pollock, also mourn his loss.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, with Pastor Jim Everette officiating. Following the service, Sherif will be laid to rest at Oleander Memorial Gardens alongside those who have gone before him.
