WILMINGTON — Ray S. Riggs, 87, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Currie, NC. Born on March 23, 1938, in Wilmington, NC, Ray was a lifelong resident of North Carolina who will be remembered for his steady presence, hardworking nature, and deep love for family.
He dedicated his professional life to working as a foreman with Hercofina, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and commitment to his craft. Beyond his career, Ray held a quiet appreciation for classic cars, finding joy in their timeless beauty and craftsmanship.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James Thomas Riggs Jr. and Nola Justice; his brother, Jerry Riggs; and his sister, Doris Riggs. Ray leaves behind a loving family, including his sons: Adam Riggs and his wife Cherry, Dean Riggs and his wife Beth, and Dale Riggs, and their mother, Betty. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Bobbie Riggs; nephews, Jerry and Tim Riggs; and his cherished granddaughter, Isabella Riggs. Among those who will miss him dearly are his loyal canine companion, Lady, and his affectionate feline friend, Ellie.
A service to honor Ray’s life will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens on July 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness and warmth.
Flowers can be sent to Wilmington Funeral and Cremation. Donations may also be made to the New Hanover Humane Society, reflecting Ray’s love for animals.
Ray S. Riggs will be remembered as a beloved brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, whose gentle spirit and love for the simple pleasures in life left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
