LELAND — Grace Dolores Deich, 84, of Leland, NC, died Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her residence.
She was born in St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains, NY, on July 25, 1940, the daughter of the late John James Bertrand and Helen Isabella Robertson Bertrand. Also remembered is her husband, Donald A. Deich; a brother, Richard Bertrand; a sister, Helen Martinetti, her daughter-in-law, Bergetta A. Deich; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Deich Sippel, all of who preceded her in death.
Surviving is her one son, Donald C. Deich; three brothers, Charles Bertrand (Liz), Joseph Bertrand (Cathy), and John Bertrand (Janet); and three sisters, Barbara Trier (Don), Joan Arrigo (Tom) and Mary Tocidlowski (Stanley); a sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Deich; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace lived in Yonkers, Elmsford, Valhalla and Glenham, NY, before moving to Wilmington, NC, in 2000. She was a graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, NY. Grace worked as a cook manager in the White Plains School System for ten years and then as a secretary for the City of White Plains for twenty years.
After moving to Wilmington she was a member of the Red Hat Crimson Belles, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she volunteered at the Church “Help Center” and also as a receptionist. Grace also volunteered at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her other time was spent driving a fancy detailed PT Cruiser that she took to car shows as a member of the Carolina PT Cruiser Club.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
A funeral mass will be held 9:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Interment will follow on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11:00 am in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
