BURGAW — It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Debora Edgerton Bass, who entered into eternal rest on June 8, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie was born February 17, 1955 in Wilson, the daughter of Alton Reid Edgerton and Elizabeth Culbreth Edgerton. In addition to her parents Debbie was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Pete Bass.
A woman of quiet strength and unwavering faith, Debbie lived her life rooted in grace, compassion, and purpose. She devoted over two decades to teaching Girls in Action (GAs), guiding young hearts in their spiritual journeys and modeling what it meant to live a life devoted to Christ. Her faith was not only something she spoke about, but it was also something she lived daily, through acts of kindness, service, and steadfast love.
Debbie found joy in the simple wonders of life. She loved to cast a line and spend peaceful hours fishing, stroll the shores collecting seashells, and beam with pride from the bleachers as she watched her grandchildren play sports. She was their biggest fan and fierce protector, always cheering the loudest, both on and off the field.
To know her was to be loved by her. Debbie was truly the sweetest soul — gentle in spirit, generous with her heart, and always ready with a warm smile or encouraging words. Her love knew no bounds, and her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion will live on in the many lives she touched.
Debbie is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Mike Bass; son, Michael L. Bass, Jr. (Monica); daughter, Amy David (Andrew); grandchildren, Tyson David, Gia David, Brooklyn Bass, and Lynley Bass; brother, Al Edgerton (Christine); sister, Sarah Arnold (Loren); mother-in-law, June Bass; sisters-in-law, Pam Smith (Don) and Debbie Godbold; several nieces and nephews; and countless others who were blessed to know Debbie.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Forest Hills Baptist Church.
A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Forest Hills Baptist Church, where we will gather to remember, to mourn, and to rejoice in the knowledge that she is now whole and at peace in the presence of her Savior. Jamie Ezzell will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
We find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of Jesus — the very One she spent her life serving.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
