OAK ISLAND — Susan Hoover Lyon, age 95, of Oak Island, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Mrs. Lyon was born December 1, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Earle and Ella Hoover. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. Mrs Lyon was a lifetime member of the Raleigh Business and Professional Women’s Club for over 70 years, serving in many leadership roles. She had traveled the world, visiting 150 countries, and circling the globe three times aboard Holland America Cruise Line. When not adventuring at sea, Mrs. Lyon enjoyed playing Bridge and Bingo with friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Thompson; a granddaughter, Michelle Lee and husband Michael; and a great-grandson, Joseph Camden Lee.
Mrs. Lyon was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Lyon; and two grandsons, James Anthony “Tony” Thompson and William David Thompson.
A celebration of her life will be held at her home this summer. Her ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of Spain, her favorite place.
