WILMINGTON — Linda M. Curtin died after a short illness on Wednesday, April 11, 2025 in Wilmington, N.C. at the age of 85.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela Curtin; daughter-in-law Alicia Brabazon-Curtin and grandchildren Addison, Tara, Lucy and Christopher; and brother Walter Muller. She was predeceased by her husband Gerry and beloved son Gerald.
Linda was born in New York City on May 1, 1939, and grew up in Bellrose, Queens with her family.
She attended Queens College, but later decided to attend secretarial school. She worked for many years as an executive secretary for Esso Oil Company, later Exxon, in New York City for senior level corporate personnel. Working gave her the ability to travel, and she travelled widely in the U.S. and overseas.
Linda learned to ski, and became a member of the Sperry Ski Club on Long Island, NY. It was through the ski club she met Gerry, another member, and together they were active club members for over 50 years. She also considered many of the club members to be dear friends that she remained close to throughout her life.
After moving to Mahwah, NJ, Linda became active in a number of organizations, including the Women’s Club and a bridge group. Additionally, she developed longtime friendships with many of the families who lived on and near Trommel Drive. Later, she studied to become a real estate agent, and worked for Caldwell Banker Realty for almost 20 years.
When she moved to St. James in 2001, Linda became very involved with her new community. She was one of the three founding members of a Bunco group, and remained an active participant until shortly before her passing. She also was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Southport, including singing with the choir and serving as an active member and former chair of the property committee. And she loved socializing with her neighbors in St. James Plantation.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
A service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Southport, NC on Friday, April 25 at 11:00 am. A burial and celebration of life will take place in New York at a future date.
