SNEADS FERRY — Joseph Shad McCraw, age 49, of Sneads Ferry, NC, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2025, surrounded in love by friends and family.
He was born on March 26, 1976 to Steve McCraw and the late Sherry Holt Boinest in Shelby, NC. Joe proudly served as a Patrol Sergeant with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, where his colleagues admired him for his diligence, integrity, and dedication. Through unwavering dedication to his profession and community, he left an enduring legacy, exemplifying principles of honesty and fairness throughout his career. After retirement, he embraced his passions, most notably his deep appreciation for music, the solace he found while surf fishing, and the unwavering companionship of his treasured dog, Gaucho.
His beloved wife, Jodi, will forever cherish their life together. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Steve and Geneva McCraw, and his stepfather, Trip Boinest (Becky), sisters, Jordan Boinest Hollett (Ronnie) and Lydia Boinest Becker (Brian), stepbrothers, Ray Billings, Jeff Billings (Joy), and Billy Billings, alongside an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Additionally, the law enforcement community in Caldwell County will always hold Joe’s memory close to their hearts, along with his close friends, Alex Starnes (Courtney), Kyle Conner (Randie), and Wesley “Piney” Chester (Katy).
Joe now joins his mother, Sherry Holt Boinest, and his grandparents, Bill Joe and Mary McCraw, as well as S.W. “Dub” and Christine Holt, in eternal rest.
To honor Joseph’s memory and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to two organizations close to his heart: Shepherds for Sheepdogs and/or Tunnels to Towers.
A life celebration will be held at the residence of Mike and Charlene McCraw located at 1926 Bachelor Rd, Mooresboro, NC 28114 on April 19, 2025 beginning at 3:00 PM.
Joe will be dearly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of those gone before him.
