WILMINGTON — Edwina Warters Batson, “Winky” as she was known by her many friends and co-workers, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 74, at Trinity Grove Nursing Facility, where she had resided for eight years.
Miss Batson was the daughter and only child of James Edward Batson and Mary Warters Batson.
She graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1969 and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1973.
Miss Batson retired from New Hanover County as a 911 communicator.
She enjoyed serving as a photographer for the Azalea Festival Princess Court, participating in karaoke at Wrightsville Beach, attending her many class reunions, traveling, taking beautiful photographs of friends, family, retirement parties, weddings, etc.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 8, at Andrews Valley Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior, beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The service will be conducted by Reverend Skip Williams.
The Pallbearers will be Hollis Batson, Melvin Batson, Larry Godley, Don Hickman, Jeff Tipton and Stan Crowder.
Many thanks to the staff of Trinity Grove Nursing facility for the love and compassion they continued to share with Edwina during her years spent at the wonderful facility.
