OAK ISLAND — Richard Doyle Marshall, 84, of Oak Island, NC passed away March 9, 2025.

He was born April 3, 1940 in Fort Worth, TX to Richard and Thelma Marshall. He graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., where he lettered in crew and soccer. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He married Sherri in 1966 and started a career in the retail sales business along the east coast. Dick and Sherri had two daughters, Paige and Melaney and in 1990, the family moved to Oak Island where he established multiple businesses within the real estate and vacation rental industry. This culminated in the establishment of Oak Island Accommodations as founder and CEO.

Dick was actively engaged in the communities where they lived. He was a founder, president and coach of Midlothian VA Youth Soccer League. From 1991 to 2016 he served on the Board of Directors for Hope Harbor Home, Habitat for Humanity, BB&T, Lower Cape Fear Sewer and Water Authority, Southport -Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce, President of Brunswick County Association of Realtors, Commissioner of Yaupon Beach and Oak Island (1995-2003) and President of the Dosher Hospital Foundation. He received the Small Business Person of the Year and the Coastal Entrepreneur Awards.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherri Marshall; his daughters, Paige Brown and her husband, Rick, and Melaney Bullock and her husband, Keith; his grandchildren, Sydney and Kyle Robbins, Kally and Kasey Bullock; and his nephew, Doug Hayward and wife, Karen.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Hayward.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jack Helbig Memorial Foundation and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm at the Church.
