HAMPSTEAD — Mary Laurie Chute, 72, of Hampstead, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025.

Born on January 17, 1953, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Thomas Goalen and Earlene Richter Goalen, Mary lived a life filled with strength, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Gary Chute, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted sons, Anton Beatty, Shawn (Colleen) Beatty, and Jeff (Shiela) Grand; her charismatic loving sister, Debbie Zimmerman; her supportive brothers, Michael Goalen, Thomas (Nancy) Goalen, T.J. (Amy) Goalen, and Timothy (Genevieve) Goalen; her adored grandchildren, Ava and Guy Beatty; and most importantly her faithful canine companion, Lola. She also leaves behind a large circle of extended family and friends who will deeply miss her.

For 36 dedicated years, Mary worked and thrived at the Buckboard Saloon and Dart Transit, demonstrating her strong work ethic and commitment. Known for her strong will, sensitivity, and feminine grace, Mary possessed a unique ability to offer insightful advice and unwavering support. She was a woman of many words, always knowing just what to say to comfort or guide those around her. Her honesty was a testament to her genuine nature, and her presence was a source of comfort and warmth to all who knew her. Mary had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and at home. Her inner and outer beauty radiated, and she consistently strived to be a pillar of support for others, often without them even realizing it.

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, on a date later to be determined there will be a private family ceremony to honor Mary’s life.

In lieu of flowers or condolences, the family requests that you honor Mary’s love for animals by making a donation to your local animal shelter or rehabilitation center.
