HAMPSTEAD — Jimmy Ellington Jr., 52, of Hampstead, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. A man of many talents and boundless enthusiasm, Jimmy touched the lives of all who knew him with his adventurous spirit, generosity, and deep love for family and friends.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Jimmy found his greatest joy in the ocean, spending countless hours surfing the Carolina waves and taking treasured trips in search of the perfect swell.

Being a jack of all trades, Jimmy never shied away from a new challenge. Whether launching a business, building something with his hands, or exploring a new passion, he embraced life with fearless determination. As the proud owner of the Skate Barn in Hampstead, he built more than just a skatepark. He built a community, hosting fundraisers and forming lifelong friendships with those who crossed his path. He also carried on the family legacy by owning Ellington Industries Inc. for decades.

When he wasn’t working or pursuing his latest venture, Jimmy could be found on the ocean, fishing and boating, or playing cards and soccer. His warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness made him a beloved figure in his community.

Above all, Jimmy’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband and father. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he was a proud member of Renovation Church, finding strength and comfort in his beliefs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Heath Ellington, his cherished children, daughters Hannah and Adelai, and son Heath. He also leaves behind his mother, Debbie Farrow Ellington, grandmother Rheba Farrow, sister Kelly Lowery, beloved uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces and his lifelong best friend and brother Dean Grey. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Wayne Ellington Sr.

Jimmy’s legacy of love, adventure, and resilience will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
