SOUTHPORT — Kenneth Childers, 84 of Southport, NC passed away Sunday February 9, 2025 in Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center, Bolivia, NC following a time of declining health while being surrounded by his loving family.

Kenneth was born in Franklin, NC, on August 20, 1940, and was a son of the late Fred Welch and Margaret Pearl Burnett Childers, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas “TJ” Childers, sister Joyce Gentry, brother Rev Shirley Childers, brother Ralph Childers. Brother Grady Childers, son Marshall Childers, grandson Cory Cantrell.

Kenneth was a retired chemical operator for Clariant Corporation in Mt Holly, NC. He moved to Brunswick County following his retirement, where he became a member of The Bridge Church, Supply, NC. He was always going to gospel concerts with many of his friends. He retired to the beach because his love for fishing. Many years you find him on a fishing pier by 6am. He would have his grandson Tyler with him on many of those trips. He was a proud man of his fishing talents, as he would teach many of his skills from tying his own rigs.

You could also find Kenneth with friends of First Baptist Church of Oak Island, NC building handicap ramps. He also was a volunteered with Fishing for Christ help kids learn fishing skills. If you were able to find him at home, he was working in the park which he lived.

Surviving are son Dean Childers (Teresa) of Gastonia, NC; daughter Donna Childers of Southport, NC; Alice Sanders wife of 26 years of Kannapolis, NC; brother Paul Childers (Judy) of Mt Holly, NC; daughter in law Samantha Childers; grandchildren Tyler Childers (Samantha) of Ash, NC; Matthew Childers (Amanda) of Dallas, NC; Brian Childers (Rebecca) of Kannapolis, NC; great grand children Heven Backman of Bolivia, NC; James Childers of Ash, NC; Alexandra Childers and Archer Childers of Dallas, NC; Grayleigh Parks and Kenny “KJ” Woodward of Kannapolis, NC. and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life service will be held at The Bridge Church 1180 Mt Pisgah Rd SW, Supply, NC 28462, February 22, at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Bridge Church, 1180 Mt Pisgah Rd SW, Supply, NC 28462 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
