WILMINGTON — James Joseph McKenna, 66, passed away on Wednesday at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington. Born in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy McKenna.
After graduating from Baldwin High School in Baldwin, NY he enrolled at State University of New York at Morrisville and graduated with his AA in Electrical technology. A hard worker, he continued his career as a Project Manager for commercial construction companies until 2001, when he became owner of the Molly Maid location in Wilmington.
When he wasn’t at work, he loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed some hobbies; woodworking, playing golf, and generally anything outdoors. In addition to these pursuits, he served his community by volunteering for Hurricane Relief Efforts.
James is survived by his loving wife, Noreen McKenna; daughter, Jenna McKenna; son, Brendan McKenna (Ginger); brothers, Raymond McKenna (Peggy) and Tom McKenna (Maureen); sisters, Fran Montore, Peggy Fennelly, Virginia Houst, Patty Johnsen (Len), Eileen Jordan (Jerry), and Marybeth Jamison; also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his best (canine) friend, Lincoln.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip McKenna, Bobby McKenna, Richie McKenna, Eddy McKenna, and George McKenna; sisters, Kathleen McKenna, Terry Dougherty, and Nancy Ambruster.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in March 2025, exact date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
