CASTLE HAYNE — Edward Gordon Comer, born on January 3, 1963, in Maryland, passed away at his home on December 21, 2024, in Castle Hayne, NC, at the age of 61. Edward lived a humble and meaningful life, finding joy in the simple pleasures and embracing the love of family and community.
Edward’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family. Having married his beloved wife, Yvonne, with whom he shared 20 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they blended their families into one, creating a home filled with love and laughter. He embraced Yvonne’s daughter, Christine Whitcomb, and son, Michael Whitcomb, as his own and cherished every moment spent with his numerous grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was also a member of the Salvation Army Church. For a time, Edward worked as an inventory stocker at a local grocery store, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic.
Preceded in death by his parents, his son whom he considered as his own, Michael Whitcomb, and his brothers Jim, Dennis, and Bill, Edward is survived by his devoted wife Yvonne, his beloved daughter he loved as his, Christine Whitcomb, his brothers Carlton and Johnny, and his sisters Barbie and Mary. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Stevie and Devlin Comer, along with many cherished grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Edward will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date, as family and friends gather to celebrate and honor a life well-lived.
In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the memories of Edward’s gentle spirit and the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
