OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Arthur Joseph Bernard, 86, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC (formerly of St. Augustine, FL and Danvers, MA), passed away peacefully, with family members at his side, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, following a brief illness.

Arthur was born in Salem, Massachusetts on May 1, 1938, and was a son of the late Sylvio and Lauretta Picard Bernard. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Cecile Bernard on July 31, 2021, a brother, Richard “Ritchie” Bernard, and a sister, Doris Bernard Pitreau.

Arthur was a master carpenter, woodworker and teacher of the trade for several years at Beverly Vocational High School. He was a proud veteran of the US Army during WW II and avid pilot. A devout member of the catholic faith where he served as Eucharistic Lay Minister at St Anastasia Catholic Church, St. Augustine, Florida.

Surviving are three sons, Mark Bernard and wife Cheryl of North Carolina, Todd Bernard and wife Dawn of Danvers, MA, Doug Bernard and wife Joy of Danvers, MA; a daughter, Christine Gould and husband Brian of North Carolina; a brother, Sylvio “Butch” Bernard; a sister, Betty Bernard; six grandchildren, Derek, Craig, Matthew, Tara, Adam, Cody; eight great-grandchildren and last be not least, his beloved cat Griffin.

In keeping with his wishes the family is planning for Arthur to be laid to rest beside his wife Caroline at Saint Anastasia Columbaria with arrangements still pending.

The family respectfully requests that donations be made in his name to the Parkinsons Foundation.
