Karin Rochelle Ottenberg (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Karin Rochelle Ottenberg, born on July 30, 1975, in Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on December 27, 2024, in her hometown of Wilmington at the age of 49.

Karin was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She was a proud graduate of New Hanover High School, class of 1993. She went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Cape Fear Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Throughout her life, Karin pursued various professions, including working as a waitress, art teacher, and banker. However, she found her true calling in horticulture, where she dedicated the majority of her career to the nurturing and propagation of plants, flowers, bushes, and trees. Her love for nature and the beauty she cultivated mirrored the care she showed in all aspects of her life.

Karin’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved children, Isabella (Izzy) and Bodey. She was their unwavering supporter—cherishing each moment spent at Bodey’s soccer games and celebrating Izzy’s involvement with Surfers Healing. Her family celebrations were filled with laughter and love, particularly with her first cousins, who were like siblings to her.

An animal lover at heart, Karin opened her home to various creatures, from worms to cats, dogs, and even tadpoles. Her genuine affection extended beyond her family and pets, creating a vast network of friends who adored her spirit and generosity.

Karin is preceded in death by her father, Douglas Lee Rochelle, and her dear aunt, Debbie Mills Benton. She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her mother, Anita Mills Roberts; brother, Kevin D. Rochelle; cherished children, Isabella (Izzy) and Bodey Ottenberg; uncles Darryl Mills, Dean Rochelle, and David Nance (Rita); stepmother, Sallie Bridger; and numerous special cousins who held a dear place in her heart.

A celebration of Karin’s life will be held in the near future, where friends and family will gather to honor the beautiful soul who enriched their lives with joy, compassion, and unwavering love.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Karin’s memory to Autism of NC.
