David McCann, 75

LELAND — David McCann, of Leland, NC age 75, passed away peacefully in Bolivia, North Carolina, on October 31, 2024. Born on October 28, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, David lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love for his family and friends.

David’s journey was one marked by hard work and heart. He built a career in construction as a skilled interior and exterior painter, where his attention to detail and commitment to quality left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His work was not just a job but a testament to his perseverance and expertise.

A proud United States Marine who served during Vietnam, David was a man of faith, grounded in his Christian beliefs. His life was an exploration of interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. From fishing in the Gulf to losing himself in the pages of a good book, he was constantly seeking knowledge and adventure. His talents extended to woodworking, electronics, and auto repair, where he found satisfaction in creating and fixing with his own hands. Racing cars was another passion that fueled his spirit of excitement and competition.

David treasured his family above all else. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Dennis and Betty Jane McCann, and his brothers Michael and Dennis McCann. He is survived by a devoted family who will carry his memory forward: Tammy, Sabrina, Tonie, Paula, Joseph David, April McCann Whitmer of Columbus, Ohio, Mark and Carol McCann of Logan, Ohio, Dennis and Kay McCann of Tennessee, and Sheena McCann of Logan, Ohio; as well as. His circle of friends, including Shelly, Bobby Stokes, Jim and June, and Barbra Jones, will remember him fondly for his kindness and camaraderie.

As we celebrate David’s life, we reflect on the love and inspiration he provided to those around him. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy found in pursuing one’s passions.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for David, especially the in-home nurses and aides, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and Novant Brunswick County Hospital. Your compassionate care and support were invaluable during his final days.

David McCann’s legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and love—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. There are no services for David, planned at this time.
