WILMINGTON — Christine Parker Rouse, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 2nd, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born August 23, 1928, in Snow Hill, NC, Christine lived a life filled with love, faith, and service to others, always putting the needs of her family first. She was married to the love of her life, Alton Rouse, for 67 wonderful years.
A devoted homemaker, Christine found joy in nurturing her family. Her kitchen was a hub of warmth and laughter, especially during holidays and birthdays, where she lovingly prepared feasts for her loved ones. She had a special place in her heart for children and dedicated countless hours to caring for her own and those of her extended family. Christine loved to read, canned fresh vegetables out of Alton’s Garden and watched the cardinals that frequented her feeders. She believed it was a good omen to see a cardinal in the morning.
Christine was a pillar of her community, known for her kindness and generosity to her neighbors. Her deep faith in Jesus Christ guided her life. She was an active member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church in her later years. Earlier, she and Alton were charter members of Pine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington where she faithfully taught Sunday School, sharing her love for God with young minds.
Christine leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her sister, Joan Whitehurst of Greenville, NC; children Michael Rouse and wife Gail, Bobby Rouse and wife Pam of Wilmington; and Carol Stovall and husband Shawn of Leland. Grandchildren include Caroline Hunt, Chrissy Hutto and husband Curtis, Sr., and Robbie Rouse. Great-grandchildren are Cheyenne Hite and Curtis Hutto, Jr. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Christine was preceded in death by her loving husband Alton and three loving brothers: Robert Parker, J.C. Parker, and Johnnie Parker.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, located at 4108 S College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28412. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30AM with a service to follow at 11AM. A brief graveside service will be held afterwards at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Christine, affectionately known as “Ma”, will be deeply missed, but her loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
