WILMINGTON — Stephen E. Shear 78, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 14, 1945, in Oswego, NY, Steve was preceded in death by his daughter Debi as well as father Stephen, mother Dora and
stepfather Joseph Tripp.
Steve was a devoted husband to his wife, Patricia, for 60 wonderful years. He was a proud father to his children, Stephanie (Bo) Shear, and Kris Shear, and a cherished
grandfather to grandchildren, Stephen (Holly), Nicholas (Kayleen), Christopher (Sammie), Justin and Tripp. Great Grandchildren, Ellee, Harper and Shepard. Steve is also survived by his siblings, Ralph (Eleanor), John (Mary), Cliff (Patty), Kenny (Bonnie), Carl (Mary), Nelson (Carol), Kathy (Richard), and Faith. He was a beloved uncle to all his nieces and nephews.
A Purple Heart recipient, Steve served his country as a Vietnam Veteran and in the Air Force National Guard. Steve dedicated over 40 years of service in the Hospitality
Industry. Steve retired from Ecolab after 25 years where he was known for his unwavering work ethic, kindness, customer service and generosity from his peers and
customers alike.
Steve had a passion for golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family. In retirement, Steve enjoyed his home in Wilmington where he made lifelong friends with neighbors and co-workers at his part time gig as a driver for Enterprise.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Center or St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Steve’s memory.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on in the hearts of his family and friends
