John Alan Benson, 61

John Alan Benson (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — John is survived by his three sons: Alan Benson, John (Emily) Benson, and Joseph (Emily) Benson. He cherished the time spent with each of them and took immense pride in watching them grow. He had four grandchildren: Weston, Waylon, Emerson, and Owen Benson. The love he had for them was truly immeasurable. He is also survived by his sisters Paige and Belinda.

He is preceded in death by his parents John Alan Benson, Jr. and Phylis Teague.

John came alive in the great outdoors. He loved nothing more than being out on the water, fishing, and hunting. It was here, in nature, that he found peace and joy. He shared this passion with his family, often teaching them the skills he loved and instilling in them a respect for nature.

A hallmark of John’s character was his caring nature. He was a man who strived to ensure that those around him were happy, often going out of his way to avoid conflict and uplift others. This quality made him exceptional friend to many.

John was also known for his talent as a landscaper. He had an eye for beauty and a deep understanding of nature, making him one of the best in his field. The landscapes he created were not only a testament to his hard work but also reflected his love for the environment.

Today, as we remember John, we’d also like to honor Elliot Hunter and his beloved Aunt Margaret McDuffie. Their unwavering support and friendship over the years enriched John’s life and the lives of his family.

Rest in peace, John. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of your family and friends.

There will be a visitation for family and friends on November 10 from 2-4pm at Northern Regional Park, Shelter 2. You will be able to remanence and tell stories you shared with John Alan.
