WILMINGTON — Wanda Edwards, 86, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024. She was the loving wife of Durwood Edwards.
Born on April 11, 1938, Wanda was the youngest child and the only daughter of William and Lessie Hufham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four brothers: William, Floyd, James, and Billy, and sister-in-law, Alice Joyce Bland.
She is survived by two children: Deryl Edwards (Trudy) of VA and Joanie Edge (Barry) of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren: Lauren Lawler (Aaron), Grayson Edwards, Noah Edge, and Katie Edge; four great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Marie Hufham. She is also survived by brother-in-law Wendell Edwards (Ellen), sister-in-law Dorothy Bays (David), and brother-in-law Joe Edwards (Linda), in addition to nephews and nieces. Wanda deeply loved her family and was a caring and loving mother to Deryl and Joanie.
Wanda graduated from Acme-Delco High School in 1954 and later from Miller-Motte Business College. Afterward, she was active in the business community, in both real estate and retail sales.
A beloved member of Long Leaf Baptist Church in Wilmington, she faithfully served as church organist and pianist for many years at Long Leaf and before that at Livingston Baptist Church in Delco, NC. Wanda always looked forward to attending services and other church activities and cherished the friendships she had within her church family.
Wanda fought the good fight and finished the race. She was indeed a good and faithful servant.
