WILMINGTON — Herbert Anderson Taylor, 86, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed peacefully into eternity on October 11, 2024. Born on August 13, 1938, in Asheboro, North Carolina alongside his twin and lifelong best friend, Hubert Harold Taylor, Herb was the cherished son of Herbert Harold Taylor and Mary Helen Anderson Taylor.
Herb and Hugh shared a deep bond throughout their lives. Growing up together in Latta, South Carolina they operated a grass-cutting business, and their shared interests led them to become skilled photographers. Both achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting their dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving others. They went on to attend the University of South Carolina side by side, continuing their journey of learning and camaraderie.
Herb’s devotion to his family was evident in every part of his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Rita Counts Taylor, and three children: Mary (aka Molly) Copeland Taylor Beamon (Tom) of Charlotte, Mark Anderson Taylor (Lisa) of Charlotte, and Andrew Herbert Taylor of San Diego. He was the proud grandfather of Meghan Amanda Taylor Thompson (Ethan), Luke Olin Taylor, Jeremiah Taylor Beamon (Noel), Aubrey Rayne Beamon Parks (Andrew), and Gideon Oliver Beamon and great grand children Everett Callum Thompson, Miles Anderson Thompson, and Loralie Jean Thompson. His children and grandchildren will forever cherish his sense of humor, wisdom, and unwavering love.
In addition to his family, Herb shared longtime friendships with the Crafts and Ruble families, whose companionship deeply enriched his life. They shared countless memories, holidays, moments of joy, and their deep bonds were a source of great comfort, devotion and delight throughout the years. These friendships are a testament to the bonds of Christian love and the kindness and loyalty that defined Herb’s character.
Active in his faith, Herb had a passion for real estate investing and a heart for Jesus. He was a devoted leader at Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church, striving to use his talents for the glory of God and the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His warmth and humor made him a natural with children, and he brought joy and comfort to many through his generous spirit. Herb loved people and would make a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible, sometimes with a hug and frequently with a humorous nickname.
Herb’s life was a testament to faith, family, and friendship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of love and laughter will endure through those whose lives he touched.
