WILMINGTON — James Byron Byrd, Jr. “Byrdman”, 68 of Winnabow, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was born on February 5, 1956 in Robeson County, NC to James Byron Byrd, Sr. and Hilda Herring Byrd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Donna Gasecki.
Surviving are his wife, Fawn Byrd; daughter, Madison and husband Aidan Rafferty; brothers: Alan Byrd and wife Wendy and Joe Byrd; sister-in-law, Tena Lewis and husband Chad; four aunts: Sandra Horne, Carole Hall, Zenobia Ann Byrd, Carolyn Byrd; uncle, Edward Byrd and brother-in-law, Steve Gasecki, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and co-workers.
After moving to Wilmington with his family around 1975, he began a career with CP&L. After retiring, he continued to work contract with Duke Energy and TVA for another 20 years. In 1988, he married his wife Fawn and after 15 years, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Madison that became his ultimate joy in life! No matter what he was doing in life, the most important thing was his relationships with all those he loved!
Whether speaking about his family, friends, or his massive network of beloved co-workers, his love was undeniable! Byron loved sharing his fond memories of working on the farm during his summer breaks. He was also very honored to serve as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. Cheering for his Tarheels and Pittsburgh Steelers was one of his greatest pastimes! Byron loved his daily adventures with his beloved Waverly!! His joy for life was uncontainable! Byron loved so well because he first loved God and shared Him with everyone he met!
Byron truly lived Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
