WILMINGTON — Eugene “Gene” Greenway, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, at the age of 86.
He was born on January 2, 1938, in Twin City, GA, to the late Floyd Greenway and Callie Belle Davis Greenway. Gene lived a full and dedicated life, marked by his service, work and love for his family.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army, spending three years stationed in France, where he made lifelong memories and connections. Following his military service, Gene embarked on a long and fulfilling career with General Electric (GE), where he was known not only for his hard work and commitment , but also for his remarkable perfect attendance record throughout his tenure.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Greenway and son, Donald “Don” Greenway.
He is survived by his son, Curtis and his wife Robin, his two grandsons, Nicholas Greenway and his girlfriend Katie Johnston, and Christopher Greenway, who were the lights of his life. Gene will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and the deep love he had for his family.
Gene’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, with pastor Danny Justice officiating.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior, beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
