LELAND — Joyce M. Maksel, 81, Leland, NC passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with family by her side.
Joyce was born in New Brunswick, NJ and lived in Old Bridge, NJ until 1958 when she moved to Toms River, NJ. She graduated from Toms River High School in 1960. Joyce worked for Builders Emporium, Eagle Lumber and then went on to work for Toms River Township until she retired. Joyce lived in Toms River until 2014 when she moved Beachwood, NJ before moving to Leland NC with family in 2020. Moving to North Carolina was always a dream she had following her retirement.
Joyce enjoyed doing all types of crafts. She taught ceramics for many years; she enjoyed crocheting blankets for anyone and everyone and loved making almost anything out of paper. Going out to dinner was one of her favorite things to do, as well as spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joyce was pre-deceased by her parents, Frank Hartman and Leila Brown Hartman, her sister Lynn Hartman and her husband Richard T. Maksel. She is survived by her children Richard Beck, Jr and his wife, Susan, Browns Mills, NJ, Carolyn Hannon and her husband Michael, Leland, NC, and Deborah Cullen, Grapevine, Tx. She was also blessed with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Joyce has requested that no services will be held but wants everyone who knew and loved her to celebrate her life and remember she loved you all very much.
