WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Ruth Reda, age 92, of Wrightsville Beach, NC, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024.
Born on June 15, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Thomas, immigrants from Yazdiye, Safita, Syria. She was the loving mother of Ralph J. (Caroline) Reda, and cherished grandmother of Joshua J. Reda and Megan E. Reda. She leaves behind her many friends and nieces and nephews and favorite dog, Izzy, a Cavalier spaniel.
Ruth loved cooking, entertaining, playing cards, doing puzzles and playing scrabble with friends and family. Ruth was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed cheering for them on game days. She grew up in East End Canonsburg with her eight older brothers and a sister (Thomas, Phillip, Charles, Samuel, Malvin, Adam, Anthony, Joseph and Lillian).
She was a 1950 graduate of Canonsburg High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Chickaree Chicks basketball team. She worked for many years in the accounting department at Western Center Hospital where she made many dear friends. Most of all Ruthie enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Those who knew Ruth know she hated being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In lieu of flowers or funeral services, and to honor Ruth’s character, we ask that all who wish to participate make a donation to one of Ruth’s chosen charities, or one of your choosing.
Contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Disabled American Veterans.
