WILMINGTON — Velma Haddock Everson, 77, of Wilmington, NC passed away July 31, 2024.
She was born in Kinston, NC on January 27, 1947 to the late Heber and Feddie Haddock of Chocowinity, NC. Remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Velma was preceded in death by her late husband Thad “Tommy” Everson.
She is survived by her daughter Tammy Allen and husband Andrew as well as her son Gregory Everson and wife Kristine. Velma’s loving grandchildren include Dustin Allen, Mason Allen, Taylor Everson, Talon Allen, and Hailey Everson. Her great grandchildren include Rosalyn Allen, Ryleigh Allen, and Elias Allen. She was preceded in death by her brother Larry Haddock and brother-in-law Mike Martin. She is also survived by relatives including her uncle Bobby Redic as well as siblings Anne Martin, Joan Dixon and husband Jesse, Linda Mcoy and husband Vernon, Charles Haddock and wife Jenny, Jeff Haddock and wife Sandy. She is also survived by a multitude of much-loved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Velma was a founding and continuous member of Peace Baptist Church on Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington, NC. For years, Velma traveled to different churches in the Southeast as part of a gospel women’s trio. Her interest in music also led to her publishing various records in the 1970’s. Velma also spent over two decades as a manager for Twisdale Manufacturing Corporation. She was also a partner owner of LarVel Transport Company, and later spent almost two decades as a lead insurance agent for Aflac.
She was a talented, warm-hearted, intelligent person who was generous not only with her opinion, but also with her time and love. Velma was loved by all and will be extremely missed. She touched and positively influenced all who knew her.
